My first dress...

My first dress and it's a success, despite the headache attaching the invisible zipper.
The pattern does not call for the invisible zipper, but I thought I'd tackle the hardest first....I regret it... It takes skill to sew one of those....
My review:
Pattern: McCalls
Difficulty level: easy
Sizing accuracy: Way off, I had to take it in a few times.

  2. Hi! Found you via Erica B's blog post about Pattern review vs blog posting. I started blogging this year too! There are quite a few new blogs around.

Not that I'm a prolific sewer/blogger in any way...

OK, I'm going to admit it straight out, I'm a busybody. So I'd like to make a few suggestions.

It would be nice if you included the pattern number in the title of the post, the body or the tags/labels. A lot of people pattern stash shop (yes, me!) by taking note of cool outfits bloggers posted.

Also, you don't say if you made the appliqués yourself or not. Is the fabric printed like that, a border print, or did you cut out the yellow and green flowers yourself?

And lastly, you seem to be pear-shaped, did you trace two different sizes for the bust and hips or did you start with a big(ger) size and took in more in more until you got what you wanted?

And do you know about the High Bust/Full Bust thing? Because, in my own recent experience, I use High Bust (above the breasts) measurement, which puts me a size SMALLER than my Full Bust size (over the breasts). I"m supposed to be a 12 in Simplicity but a 10 fits better.

BUT I just cut out a muslin for a New Look top and the 12 was good. This fits what I read in Sandra Betzina's Fast Fit book. FYI.

  3. Thank you so much for your comments, truly appreciate them. I will take your advice. As for the appliques I cut them out of felt using the flowers included in the pattern and then I used double sided fusing. According to my measurements I should be a size 16 which is what I went by but I had to take it in like 3 sizes or more. I'm currently working on a Vogue pattern and I'm cutting a size 8, let's see how that turns out. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again for your advice.
